Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)

Program Description:

The Settlement Workers in Schools program is providing support to newcomer students and their families during their first years in Canada and is assist with settlement needs including:

  • outreach to new immigrant students and families
  • individual needs assessment and planning
  • information and orientation on settlement and related issues
  • orientation to schools and communities
  • referrals and services to link to community and government services
  • cultural bridging
  • schooling
  • youth programs and support
  • parenting workshops

Services are available in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Swahili, Chinese, Korean, Farsi, Arabic, Kurdish, Urdu and Vietnamese

Permanent residents with a child / children registered in K – 12 in Burnaby School District
