Police are asking the public to help identify a man who assaulted a Burnaby hardware store employee.

RCMP said the shopper was at a retail store on East 1st Avenue just east of Boundary Road at around 12:30 p.m. on May 8 when an employee asked why he wasn’t wearing a mask.

When another worker intervened, the man threatened to kill that employee with a knife, said police.

A video released by Burnaby Mounties show the man leaving a store with a pair of bolt cutters. As he left, he used the bolt cutters to smash the store’s front window.

A different camera then showed the man at the parking lot charging at someone who was off screen and appearing to throw the bolt cutter at them.
